Valentine’s Day Movie Selections
Ah, the day of the year when we sit back and watch romance films. Yes, even if horror ensues from forbidden love, meant to be passion, or love that makes us laugh, there is one time of the year where the romance genre thrives and that is Valentine’s Day. Over the years there have been romances that have lasted the test of time, here are some films I recommend you cuddle up with this fourteenth of February:
Say Anything (1989)
The John Cusack classic featuring the famous jukebox scene ranking as one of the best. When two people meet from different classes and fall in love, it would seem like Romeo and Juliet all over again. The greatness of this movie is that it is inherently set in the eighties time period. This one is sure to please.
Casablanca (1942)
Huphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman star in this unforgettable love story. An American who is living in unoccupied Africa during World War II, suddenly sees the one woman he wishes he could forget. The romance between these two actors is so palatable that it is one of the finest on screen romances ever.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
When I had first heard of this movie I never imagined its ingenius writing. This romance movie is extremely witty and over the top with its humor. Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) have been friends for years, but are unprepared for what would happen if they took their relationship to another level.
Dirty Dancing (1987)
One of my all time favorite romances, Dirty Dancing, has a privileged young woman fall for a unkempt Dancer. Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) meet at a summer retreat for the rich. Baby is intrigued by the dancing she encounters during the trip and Johnny shows her a side of herself she didn’t know she had.
Roman Holiday (1953)
A sheltered princess escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American in the city of Rome. Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn make this movie a joy to watch. This film features lots of comedy as well as the all important romance.
