First Trailer for Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightley
Universal and Focus Features have released the first trailer for the new Leo Tolstoy adaptation of Anna Karenina. The newest film from director Joe Wright ( , Pride and Prejudice), this version of the literary classic stars Keira Knightley as Anna Karenina.
An estranged marriage with Count Alexei Karenin (Jude Law (Contagion, Sherlock Holmes)), leads Anna Karenina to be evolved with young cavalry officer (Aaron Johnson, Kick-Ass). This affair sends shocks through the autocracy that demands that Anna Karenina should pay dearly for her adultery.
Anna Karenina also stars Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Frost/Nixon), Emily Watson (War Horse), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Domhnall Gleeson (Never Let Me Go), and Olivia Williams (Rushmore).
After a brief interlude away from the classics with Hanna, Joe Wright is returning to the classics. Hopefully this will continue to show Keira Knightley’s range as an actress and be a return to the quality of Atonement. The trailer certainly speaks highly of the film featuring fantastic sets and costume design.
Anna Karenina‘s scheduled U.S. première is November 9th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Anna Karenina:
The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning boxoffice successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.
