‘Top Gun’ Flying Back to Theaters in 3D

Posted September 12, 2011 by Max in Film News

The 1986 classic, Top Gun, is coming out of retirement and back onto the big screen with a 3D conversion.

According to THR, “A four-minute ‘world premiere’ preview of the converted film–featuring the ‘Danger Zone’ aerial flight sequence–was screened Monday at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.”

The conversion is being handled by Legend3D, whose CEO Rob Hummel believes, “…Top Gun lends itself to 3D due to the aerial flight.”

If the conversion is like ‘Toy Story‘ count me out. If they manage to truly bring a lot of elements of ‘Top Gun‘ to 3D, I would be interested in seeing it if only because I have never seen it in theaters.

Paramount is hoping to have the film done by early 2012.
