Last week Thor thunder-clapped his way to number 1 at the box office. It wasn’t as impressive as the Fast Five opening bow, but at just about $60 million we may see another Thor solo adventure somewhere down the line. Fast Five held up reasonably well coming in at number 2 at the box office in it’s second weekend. This week is the premier of Bridesmaids, which just maybe the comedy to beat this summer.

Synopsis: This spring, Universal Pictures and producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) invite you to experience Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love. — (C) Universal

Buzz: Kristen Wiig has arrived. Critics are calling this a career changing role for her. Paul Feig (Best known for creating Freaks and Geeks with collaborator Judd Apatow) is directing. Bridesmaids looks to provide the humor for both sexes and cement itself as one of the premier comedies of the summer.

Rating: 91%

Also opening this weekend Priest and Hesher
