On the Road

Production still from 'On the Road'

Having not known of this project I feel kind of left out. Apparently an adaptation of John Kerouac’s famous ‘On the Road’ is going to be released this year. ‘On the Road’ is about a young man who sets out on the roads and railways of America. The film will be directed by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) and star Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart. The co-stars impress me more because they include Kristen Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, and Steve Buscemi.

According to PopEater, Walter Salles filmed around the world from California and Louisiana to Argentina, Canada, and Mexico. The film has been in production for decades. Frances Ford Coppola (Godfather) bought the film rights in the 1970′s and names such as Brad Pitt, Colin Farrell, and Marlon Brando were mentioned in the casting at different times.

Many are hoping this beloved book gets the film adaptation it deserves.  Whether it will or not is yet to be determined.
