NYCC 2011: Day 1
7:30 a.m. – Rise and Shine
8:25 a.m. – Worst breakfast ever. They call that a free continental breakfast? A muffin and coffee?
9:15 a.m. – Get in super long line only to realize that press get to stand in a different line…around the the building I go.
10:30 a.m. – ‘Once Upon a Time’ Pilot Premier. Some of this worked, some of it didn’t. The general agreement between my Assistant Editor, Shannon, and I was the real life events worked, while the fairy tale land material didn’t. Considering they are taking a ‘LOST‘ approach with this series, I won’t get too involved.
11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – Batman: Arkham City…The Line
12:30 p.m. – Batman: Arkham City…The Panel. I expected a lot more from this panel, but what WAS here was fun. They talked about the process of making the game and Kevin Conroy (Voice of Batman) was present which was amazing. They showed some new footage of the game and I saw a person one row in front of me win an Xbox.
2:45 p.m. – Funimation Industry Panel. The only Anime portion of my day. Typical PR panel, but a new partnership between Funimation and NicoNico should bring a lot more Anime to America via legal streaming.
3:45 p.m. – Rest of the day…Industry Hall
Day 1 complete! I also got to play ‘Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’ and ‘Super Mario 3D’. Tomorrow should be like Armageddon due to how many people will be here. Big shout out to the two people I talked to while waiting and handed my business card. Also, it seems I like Batman way more than I knew I did.
