Joe Wright to Direct ‘Anna Karenina’ Starring Keira Knightley

Posted September 9, 2011 by Max in Film News

According to FilmSchoolRejects, Focus Features and Keira Knightley have acquired the expertise of Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna), to direct their new adaptation of ‘Anna Karenina’.

I was never assigned the book in my school years and I have no idea what this adaptation is actually about. Focus Features will you help me?

“The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”
I know it’s an absolute shame my school system never had us read Leo Tolstoy, but there are even worse tragedies of things I haven’t read so…moving on.
The cast for ‘Anna Karenina’ looks to be quite stunning. The film will of course feature Keira Knightley as Anna Karenina, but also Jude Law as her husband Alexei Karenin, and Aaron Johnson as Count Vronksy, with other roles filled by Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfayden,Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Ruth Wilson.
I’m not sure a another adaptation of this novel is needed as I’m sure there are plenty, but I will show up to see the latest stuffy adaptation Joe Wright has put together.
