Benedict Cumberbatch joins Star Trek Sequel

Posted January 5, 2012 by Max in Film News

More casting news for the new Star Trek sequel by writer/director J.J. Abrams. The sequel is planned to land in theaters on May 17th, 2013. Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch (Tinker Tailor, Sherlock) has joined the cast. Soon he will play ‘Smaug the Dragon’ through motion capture and voice the ‘Necromancer’ in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. There’s rumors going around that he has been cast as the new villain of the film, but I’ve yet to find confirmation on that. I’ll update when I know exactly what part he will play in the Star Trek sequel.

MTV.com reports that he will play a villain although it is not known who yet.
