Beginners and The Tree of Life Best Feature at the 2011 Gotham Awards

Posted November 29, 2011 by Max in Awards

There was a tie last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. Best Feature Film went with Mike Mills‘ Beginners and Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life. It’s always terrible when best film has to come down to a tie. It means that there truly wasn’t a best film. In this case though, I thought it was alright. Tree of Life isn’t a traditional film by any means and perhaps this was a way to award it’s originality. The other winners for evening follow.

Best Feature (TIE): The Tree of Life and Beginners

Best Documentary: Better This World

Best Ensemble: Beginners

Breakthrough Actor: Felicity Jones, Like Crazy

Breakthrough Director: Dee Rees for Pariah

Audience Award: Girlfriend

Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You: Scenes of a Crime
